The focus for today's post is to promote understanding and the importance of exfoliating when treating your keratosis pilaris.
First what is exfoliation? In the most basic terms exfoliation is the process of removing the oldest of your dead skin cells which are on your skins outer most layer. This process plays a large part in diminishing the physical size of your bumps. With exfoliation your essentially taking off the oldest layers of your bumps and over time this will help to shrink your bumps and get rid of the excess keratin that is plugging your follicles. Most people use microderm abrasion to exfoliate using something like this.

While a brush like that is most effective a cheaper option would be abrasion clothes which you can find at any pharmacy. Another option is chemical peels although they aren't something I generally recommend. However, depending what part of your body your keratosis pilaris is located and the sensitivity of your skin one might find a chemical peel a more affective form in your keratosis pilaris treatment regimen. Remember exfoliation is only part of your kp treatment, you also need to moisturize at bare minimum. Exfoliate before or while in the shower and once you are dry put on a moisturizing lotion.
Good Luck!
